Equipment

  • Large Skillet

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add the shrimp and sauté for about 2-3 minutes on each side until they turn pink and opaque. Set the shrimp aside.
  2. In the same skillet, introduce the ground pork sausage over medium heat. Cook for around 5-7 minutes until nicely browned.
  3. Add chopped onion, diced green bell pepper, and celery to the skillet with the sausage. Sauté for about 5 minutes until softened.
  4. Stir in minced garlic, Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Sauté for an additional minute until fragrant.
  5. Add 1 cup of long-grain white rice to the skillet, stirring well to coat. Toast for about 1-2 minutes until slightly golden.
  6. Pour in 3 cups of chicken broth, raising heat to bring to a gentle boil. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 18-20 minutes.
  7. After cooking, gently fold the sautéed shrimp back into the skillet along with chopped fresh parsley. Stir for a couple of minutes to warm through.
  8. Spoon the Shrimp Dirty Rice into bowls and serve hot, with optional hot sauce on the side.
