Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with cooking spray or olive oil.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned.
  3. Add finely chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté for 3-4 minutes until onions are translucent and fragrant.
  4. Transfer the beef mixture to the greased baking dish, spreading it evenly across the bottom. Layer thinly sliced potatoes on top.
  5. Sprinkle salt, pepper, dried Italian seasoning, and paprika generously over the layered potatoes.
  6. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese and grated Parmesan cheese over the layered potatoes and beef.
  7. Pour beef broth or water around the edges of the casserole dish. Optionally, add a splash of milk.
  8. Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  9. After 30 minutes, remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 15-20 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
