Ingredients
  

For the Burger Patties
  • 2 cups black beans canned or cooked, rinsed and drained
  • 1 medium onion diced
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs or oat flour
  • 1 large egg or 1 tbsp flaxseed mixed with 2.5 tbsp water for vegan
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • to taste salt
  • to taste pepper
  • 1/4 cup cilantro chopped
For the Spicy Mango Habanero Salsa
  • 1 medium mango ripe
  • 1 small habanero pepper handle with gloves
  • 1/4 cup red onion finely chopped
  • 1 lime juice
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro chopped

Method
 

Burger Preparation
  1. Start by draining and rinsing your black beans under cold water until it runs clear.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat, add onions and garlic, and sauté until translucent.
  3. Transfer black beans and sautéed mixture to a bowl and mash until mostly smooth.
  4. Stir in breadcrumbs, egg or flaxseed, cumin, chili powder, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  5. Shape the mixture into tightly packed patties about one inch thick.
  6. Heat oil in skillet, cook patties for 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  7. Remove from skillet, let rest on paper towel, and assemble with your favorite toppings.
Salsa Preparation
  1. Chop mango, habanero, red onion, and cilantro.
  2. Mix together in a bowl with lime juice until well combined.
