Ingredients

For the Herbed Cream Cheese Spread
  • 8 oz Whipped Cream Cheese Substitution: Cream cheese can be used instead of whipped for a thicker texture.
  • 2 tbsp Sour Cream or Mayonnaise Substitution: Store-bought mayonnaise can be swapped for homemade for a fresher taste.
  • 1 tbsp Dill Note: Fresh dill is preferred, but dried dill can be used in a pinch (reduce quantity).
  • 1 tsp Kosher Salt Note: Regular table salt can be used, but adjust the amount as it is finer.
For the Sandwiches
  • 1 large English Cucumber Tip: Use a mandolin for uniform slices and a sophisticated presentation.
  • 8 slices Sandwich Bread Note: Use a bread that is not too crusty to maintain softness.

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Spatula
  • Knife
  • mandolin
  • serrated knife
  • serving platter

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a medium bowl, combine the whipped cream cheese, sour cream or mayonnaise, chopped dill, and kosher salt. Mix until smooth and creamy.
  2. Lay out all slices of bread on a clean cutting board. Generously spread the herbed cream cheese mixture onto one side of each bread slice.
  3. Using a sharp knife or a mandolin, thinly slice the English cucumber about 1/8 inch thick.
  4. On half of the cream cheese-covered bread slices, arrange the cucumber slices slightly overlapping.
  5. Place the remaining bread slices, cream cheese side down, on top of the cucumbers to create a sandwich and gently press down.
  6. Carefully trim the crusts from all four edges of each sandwich for a refined presentation.
  7. Cut each sandwich into four small pieces, either rectangles or triangles.
  8. Arrange the sandwiches on a serving platter, and optionally garnish with extra dill or cucumber slices.
