  • 1 tbsp Olive Oil enhances flavor and moisture; substitute with vegetable oil if needed
  • 2 cloves Garlic minced & grated; substitute with garlic powder in a pinch
  • 1 tsp Dried Oregano can be replaced with Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp Ground Cumin substitute with coriander for a different taste
  • to taste Salt and Black Pepper for seasoning
For the Garlic Yogurt Sauce
  • 1 cup Plain Greek Yogurt swap with a vegan yogurt alternative for a dairy-free version
  • 1/2 each Lemon Juice can use vinegar as an alternative
For Assembly
  • 4 pieces Pita Breads/Flatbreads whole grain options can be used for added nutrition
  • 1 each Diced Cucumber fresh veggies for texture and flavor
  • 1 each Chopped Tomatoes fresh veggies for texture and flavor
  • 1 each Red Onion fresh veggies for texture and flavor
  • 1/2 cup Feta Cheese crumbled; omit for a dairy-free version
  • to taste Fresh Parsley/Dill for garnish; swap with mint for a unique twist

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat until shimmering. Add minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Mix in ground beef, oregano, cumin, salt, and pepper. Cook for 7-8 minutes until browned.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together Greek yogurt, grated garlic, lemon juice, and olive oil. Season with a pinch of salt and let it chill in the refrigerator for a few minutes.
  3. Warm the pitas or flatbreads in a dry skillet for about 1 minute on each side until soft and just beginning to brown.
  4. Set up an assembly line with warm pitas, garlic yogurt sauce, cooked beef, and fresh toppings. Spread yogurt sauce on each pita, add spiced beef, and top with vegetables and feta cheese.
  5. Once assembled, fold or roll the pitas around the filling and serve immediately while warm.
