  • 1/2 cup buttermilk or regular milk with vinegar
For the Brown Butter Cream Cheese Frosting
  • 1/2 cup brown butter or softened butter
  • 8 oz cream cheese full-fat block preferred
  • 2 cups powdered sugar adjust to taste
  • 2 tbsp milk any type

Step-by-Step Instructions for Gingerbread Loaf
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a standard loaf pan with parchment paper.
  2. Sift together flour, baking soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves in a bowl.
  3. Cream together butter and brown sugar until fluffy, then add molasses and mix well.
  4. Beat in the egg and vanilla until just combined, lightening in color.
  5. Alternate adding dry ingredients and buttermilk to the mixture, mixing until just combined.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan, smoothing the top evenly.
  7. Bake for 50-55 minutes, checking doneness with a toothpick.
  8. Cool the loaf in the pan for 20 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  9. Prepare the frosting by browning the butter, then mix with cream cheese and powdered sugar.
