Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Melt butter in a microwave-safe bowl for about 30 seconds until liquefied. Cool in fridge for 20 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together cooled butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and red gel food coloring until smooth.
  3. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing well until fully integrated.
  4. In another bowl, sift together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually fold dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  6. Scoop dough into 1.5 inch balls and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Refrigerate for 1 hour.
  7. Preheat the oven to 180ºC (355ºF) while dough is chilling.
  8. Bake cookie balls for 10-11 minutes, keeping them soft in the center.
  9. To prepare frosting, beat cream cheese and butter together until fluffy. Gradually mix in powdered sugar and vanilla.
  10. Once cookies cool, pipe cream cheese frosting onto each in swirls.
