  • 1/4 cup Honey Adjust sweetness as needed or substitute with maple syrup for a different flavor profile.
  • 3 cloves Garlic Minced, added towards the end to avoid bitterness and enhance flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons Soy Sauce Adds rich umami; use tamari or coconut aminos for gluten-free options.
For the Rice Base
  • 3 cups Rice Chilled or day-old rice guarantees a crispy base.
  • 2 tablespoons Cooking Oil Vegetable or Olive Oil necessary for achieving that ideal crispy texture.

Equipment

  • Large Skillet
  • separate pan

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Start by heating 2 tablespoons of cooking oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Allow the oil to shimmer gently for about 1-2 minutes.
  2. Add 1 pound of ground beef to the hot skillet, pressing it down gently with a spatula. Let it cook undisturbed for about 4-5 minutes.
  3. Once the beef is nearly cooked through, reduce the heat slightly and stir in 3 cloves of minced garlic. Sauté for about 1 minute.
  4. Pour in ¼ cup of honey and 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, stirring well to coat the beef evenly. Let the mixture simmer for about 1-2 minutes.
  5. In a separate pan, add 3 cups of chilled or day-old rice over medium heat and ideally use a little oil to help it crisp up.
  6. Once both components are ready, combine the crispy rice into the skillet with the beef mixture, gently folding them together. Serve immediately.
