  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon chili sauce Adjust to spice preference.
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon minced ginger
  • 1/2 onion, sliced
  • 1 bell pepper, sliced Can substitute with other veggies.
  • 1-2 red chilies, sliced Optional for extra heat.
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil For finishing.

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Step 1: Prepare the Beef: Thinly slice the beef against the grain into strips and set aside.
  2. Step 2: Make the Batter: Whisk together cornstarch, all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper. Add egg and water, stirring until smooth.
  3. Step 3: Fry the Beef: Heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Coat beef strips in batter and fry in batches until golden brown.
  4. Step 4: Prepare the Sauce: Heat sesame oil in a wok. Sauté garlic and ginger. Add sliced onion and bell pepper, and stir until softened.
  5. Step 5: Combine Sauce Ingredients: Add soy sauce, rice vinegar, hoisin sauce, chili sauce, and sugar. Simmer until thickened.
  6. Step 6: Combine Beef and Sauce: Add crispy beef to wok and toss with the sauce. Stir-fry for 2-3 minutes.
