Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 225°F (110°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a clean mixing bowl, whisk the egg whites on medium speed for about 2 minutes until foamy.
  3. Add the cream of tartar and whisk until soft peaks form, about 2 more minutes.
  4. Increase mixer speed to high and gradually add the granulated sugar, whisking for 8-10 minutes until stiff peaks form.
  5. Gently fold in the vanilla extract and green gel food coloring using a spatula.
  6. Transfer meringue into a piping bag fitted with a large star tip.
  7. Pipe the meringues into tree shapes on the prepared baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 1 hour and 30 minutes without opening the oven door.
  9. Turn off the oven but leave the door ajar. Cool the meringues inside for about 30 minutes.
  10. Carefully remove meringues from the parchment paper and serve or store in an airtight container.
