For the Bread
  • 4 slices Rustic Bread Sourdough or ciabatta recommended
For the Filling
  • 8 oz Brie Cheese Remove rind before using
  • 1 cup Fresh Blackberries Essential for the sauce
For the Sauce
  • 2 tbsp Balsamic Vinegar
  • 1 tbsp Honey
  • 1 pinch Salt
  • 1 pinch Freshly Cracked Black Pepper
For Cooking
  • 2 tbsp Unsalted Butter Softened
Optional Garnish
  • 4 leaves Fresh Basil Leaves Optional for garnish

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat a skillet or griddle over medium heat for 3-5 minutes.
  2. In a small saucepan, combine fresh blackberries, balsamic vinegar, honey, salt, and freshly cracked black pepper. Cook over medium heat, mashing blackberries, until thickened (about 5 minutes).
  3. Spread softened unsalted butter on one side of each slice of bread.
  4. Lay two slices of bread buttered side down. Place slices of brie on top.
  5. Spoon the blackberry balsamic sauce over the brie.
  6. Top with the remaining slices of bread, buttered side up, and press down gently.
  7. Grill the sandwich for 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown and brie is melted.
  8. Slice the sandwich diagonally and serve.
  9. Garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired.
